The Greek word for ‘return’ is nostos. Algos means ‘suffering.’ So nostalgia is the suffering caused by an unappeased yearning to return.

Milan Kundera (via tattoolit)

I began to realize how important it was to be an enthusiast in life. If you are interested in something, no matter what it is, go at it full speed ahead. Embrace it with both arms, hug it, love it and above all become passionate about it. Lukewarm is no good. Hot is no good, either. White hot and passionate is the only thing to be.

Roald Dahl (via emotional-algebra)

What on earth can you do on this earth but catch at whatever comes near you, with both your hands, until your fingers are broken?

I love this world because it is imperfect. It is imperfect, and that’s why it is growing; if it was perfect it would have been dead. Growth is possible only if there is imperfection. I would like you to remember again and again, I am imperfect, the whole universe is imperfect, and to love this imperfection, to rejoice in this imperfection is my whole message.

Events are temporary, but my memory is very persistant.

The only thing I know is this: I am full of wounds and still standing on my feet.

Social Work; Our Duties

Today I went through a dead woman’s belongings in a damp, poorly lit basement. The family asked for any money or other valuable belongings to be pulled out, as they didn’t want anything else. I spent two hours touching every piece of clothing she had ever worn, smelling all of her perfume neatly organized in rose colored glass. I held birthday cards to her children and grandchildren. And when I was done, I packed her whole life back into boxes to collect dust.

Last night I dreamed about you. What happened in detail I can hardly remember, all I know is that we kept merging into one another. I was you, you were me. Finally you somehow caught fire.
